The imposing 5 storey "Meiners Building" at 1500 Vine in historic Over-the-Rhine is in dire need of assistance to save it from impending demolition. It's removal would leave a gaping hole at the northern end of Vine at a time when reinvestment is fast approaching from the south.

What better way to stimulate the economy - and especially the local economy - than to use your rebate check to help pay for the stabilization costs of the Meiners Building. Historic rehabilitation projects have been shown to have a greater economic impact than new construction, so your donation will truly provide an economic stimulus.

This is a non-monetary return-on-investment proposition. There is no direct financial benefit to making this pledge, so its important not to think of it in those terms. The benefit is derived in getting to see this important piece of Over-the-Rhine revitalized. Though some financial benefit may ultimately be had by whoever develops the property, keep in mind that OTR is an extremely difficult environment in which to develop, and these guys eek out profits where they can and take losses in other cases.

We have to act quickly -- there is a window of about 10 days in which to save the building. Jim Tarbell is heading up the effort and some funding is in the works, but private fundraising is absolutely critical if this is going to work.
