Have you heard about The “Hugs” Project? It's a great group of people nationwide who are dedicated to sewing and sending needed items to our troops in the "sandbox". We have already sent out over 176,000 homemade "hugs". Most of the items already sent by us have been used and now need replaced or else the people we've sent to have come home and others have taken their place. They need a never-ending supply and it's like starting from scratch each day. Our "mission" is to make sure every service member receives a "hug" to know that we care about them and that we respect the job they do for us and for the less fortunate in other countries.
In summer months, we make cool ties (hugs) and helmet coolers (kisses). They are simple to make but the benefits are dramatic. They can lower body temperatures by more than 5 degrees in summer. Our troops shouldn't die from heat stroke and we can help.
In the winter, we crochet, knit, loom and sew warm black hats and neckwarmers. We also make colorful hats, flat bears and Ziploc goody bags that our service members can share with the children of the Middle East. When our troops make friends of the kids, sometimes they pass along useful info that can save American lives. How powerful is that?
This group was started in Edmond, OK in June of 2004 and has rapidly spread to all 50 states and 15 foreign countries.
The greatest need at this moment is for neck and head coolers. It is already into triple digits in Iraq and Afghanistan and after a cold winter, it is affecting them hard.
We need more people making and sending out "hugs" to our troops. Right now we're working to fill a request for 10,000 Marines who's commander uses common sense and wants to give his people some protection from the extreme heat. Each person is funding their own efforts, buying their own material and postage. These hugs cost less than $1 each to construct and mail and our military members in the Middle East appreciate them SO much.
Maybe you have a loved one serving in the desert but even if not, please consider if it were your son or daughter “over there”, your husband or wife. How good would you feel if a group of strangers wanted to give them a "hug" and say, "we appreciate your service to your country"?
Thank you for taking time to read this message. Would you consider joining The “Hugs” Project?
Materials needed include 45” desert colored 100% cotton fabric, polymer crystals, sewing machine and thread, yarn, knitting needles, etc. and a heart for our American military members. If someone has these things, they can help make a difference in the lives of some of America’s finest young men and women serving in harm’s way. Thank you.

I talked to Robert of the Battle Toads Friday night for about 20 minutes
(from IRAQ!). He's a Navy Seal. He said they had just delivered a baby ---in the midst of a fire fight. They said the woman's husband had been
murdered by the insurgents when they took over her home and they
had held the woman without food or water for 3 or 4 days (even knowing that she was
soon to deliver). The Battle Toads took back the house and saved
the woman's life and then in all that excitement, she gave birth.
I told him that we would be sending most of the stuff we collected that night to them because they are at a desolate FOB near Syria (he couldn't say much because of OPSEC but told me they have no PX nearby). Ron (the radio DJ)asked him if he had ever heard of cool ties. He said, "You mean
hugs?" Ron said, "You already have 'em"? Robert said, "No, we
can't find any but we know about 'em". Ron said, "The woman is
standing here with me who started The Hugs Project". Robert was
amazed, "You mean she's from OKlahoma? I'm from Enid". I asked him
how many cool ties he needed and he told me there are 12 Battle
Toads. I asked if that was all he needed. He said, "Well, I'd hate
to ask for 40." I said, "40's not a problem, can you distribute
more? How about a thousand?" He replied, "Oh Ma'am. OH MA'AM!!
Yes, Ma'am, I can sure distribute all you want to send. It's REALLY
hot over here."
I was SO excited!!! My first time talking to a
troop in the Middle East. It was thrilling to hear his voice and
know that we are going to support this guy and his battle buddies.
He told us of the good things they are doing. He said, the Lord has
them in place for a reason. I told him that we had signs up all over
the place saying "We support our troops". He thanked us and said it's really important for them to hear that
because it keeps them motivated.
The last thing Robert said before he had to hang up was, "Please ask everyone to support the mission because the mission is FREEDOM. These people deserve to be free."

Where were the WMD's that started this war in the first place?
I have viewed terrible footage of Iraqies being murdered in the most horrific way! Why aren't troops being sent to Zimbabwe sorting out that dictator & muderer? I'll tell you... no oil!
