I am concerned about the erosion of our fundamental civil liberties at the hands of this government. These liberties are being eroded by the abolishment of Habeas Corpus, the attack on the right to peaceful protest, the erosion of privacy, the ID card, the database state, the surveillance society. Our society perpetuates a climate of fear that helps to pass unjust laws and compromise our democratic values. I will fight this paranoia with reason, and I hope many will do the same.
I pledge to write to my MP on the subject, and pressure him/her to push back the encroachment on our liberties regardless of party politics. The 215 MPs who voted for 42 days detention without charge must be reminded by us, the electorate, of the great importance of civil liberties and human rights for all individuals in the UK.
